The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends workplace programs aimed at improving physical activity and/or diet among employees. This is based on strong evidence CPSTF found that shows these programs are effective in helping reduce weight among employees.

These programs are aimed at improving unhealthy behaviors contributing to weight gain and can include informational and educational, behavioral and social, and policy and environmental strategies.

The goal of worksite programs for obesity prevention is to help employees reduce weight through diet and/or physical activity.

Worksite programs for obesity prevention are likely to help employees lose weight and reduce their BMI.

Results / Accomplishments

The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) found in individually randomized controlled trials, results showed that participating employees lost an average of 2.8 pounds and reduced their average BMI by 0.5.
